Putin visits Dagestan: President Putin on Tuesday visited Dagestan for the first time after February's arrests of high-ranking Dagestani officials suspected of corruption. Putin held a meeting with Dagestan's acting head Vasilyev and also met with local residents. Kommersant reports that Putin expressed support for Vasilyev's "resolute measures" in the fight against corruption. Today, Putin is expected to visit the Krasnodar territory and Crimea. Human rights activist attacked in Dagestan: The head of the Makhachkala office of the Memorial human rights group Sirazhutdin Datsiev was attacked by unidentified assailants near his home in Makhachkala on Wednesday. Datsiev has been hospitalized. His colleagues link the attack to Datsiev's professional activity. Press recalls that in January, the head of the Memorial human rights centre office in Chechnya Oyub Titiyev was detained on 'drug possession charges'.
