Judge killed in Dagestan: (i) A series of attacks have been perpetrated in Dagestan over the weekend. Federal judge Akhmed Radzhabov was killed in Dagestan on Saturday. Investigators consider Radzhabov's professional activity the main theory behind the killing. Press recalls that in January, judge of Dagestan's Supreme Court Magomed Magomedov was killed in Makhachkala. Also on Saturday, a school teacher of the Russian language Fazina Ibragimova was killed in Dagestan. Nezavisimaya Gazeta reports that two militants were killed in a shootout with police in Dagestan on Saturday. (ii) Nezavisimaya Gazeta writes in a front-page article that only professional units of the Interior Troops will be involved in ensuring the security during the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi in 2014. Bill on governor elections to be amended: Amendments have been drafted ahead of a second reading of a draft bill which would allow regions not to hold direct gubernatorial elections. RBK daily writes in a comment that that direct gubernatorial elections could be abolished in any Russian region, not only in the North Caucasus republics. (Kommersant, RBK daily, RG)

Dagestan: (i) A special task force officer was killed and two others were wounded in a clash with militants near Makhachkala. (ii) According to media reports, several suspected militants were killed in an operation that started on 20 March in Dagestan's Untsukulsky district. Kommersant reports that one of the militants, who had been killed, was suspected of involvement in the killing of Dagestan's Interior Minister Adilgerei Magomedtagirov. (Kommersant, NG, RIAN)
