Candidacy for Russia's new Ambassador to Ukraine: On Friday, the Duma's International Affairs Committee and the Federation Council's International Affairs Committee discussed the nomination of Presidential envoy to the Privolzhsky Federal District Mikhail Babich to the post of Russian Ambassador to Ukraine to replace Mikhail Zurabov who was dismissed by President Putin last week. Putin's spokesman Peskov said that Moscow had requested Kiev's preliminary agreement on Babich's appointment. Press reports that Babich is a former military officer. In the past, he occupied the post of Chechnya's prime minister in 2002-2003 and was a Duma deputy in 2003-2011.
