Situation in North Caucasus remains tense: According to a poll by the Levada-Centre, 43% of Russians said that they viewed the situation in the North Caucasus as calm (compared to 18% in January), while 41% consider the situation in the region as tense (60% in January) and 2% as critical (12% in January). Experts attribute change in public opinion to the fact that Russians pay more attention to the situation in Ukraine. Meanwhile, Nezavisimaya Gazeta points out that the situation in the North Caucasus remains tense and mentions militant attacks on law enforcement officers in Dagestan and Ingushetia, and clashes between police and militants in Chechnya and Kabardino-Balkaria. Four militants killed in Dagestan: The National Antiterrorism Committee said on Friday that four militants have been killed in the Dagestani town of Khasavyurt. The militants who had been killed were suspected of involvement in killings of law enforcement officers. ( Interfax )
