Neelie Kroes blijft voor het Europees Concurrentiebeleid wat Rocco Buttiglioni was geweest voor de Europese
Justitie: een slechte keuze. De Europese Groenen wachten af en beloven constructieve oppositie.

Greens/EFA
voted unanimously against the new Commission
Greens/EFA voted today unanimously
against the new Commission, whereas the majority supported the new Barroso team with 449 yes against 149 no
votes (82 abstentions).
Daniel Cohn-Bendit, Co-President of the Green/EFA group said
after the vote:
"Today we had a rendezvous with history at which everyone has taken his
responsibilities. The Greens/EFA voted unanimously against this Commission on the grounds that Barroso has
solved only half of the problems criticised by Parliament and that composition of the Commission continues to be
wrong. Neelie Kroes as the Commissioner for Competition is as problematic as Rocco Buttiglioni, Commissioner for
Justice would have been.
"But a large majority of the Parliament has endorsed this Commission
today. We will see what will be the reality of this Commission and if the Commission will survive the next five
years in the composition that has been confirmed today. The Greens/EFA sincerely hope that we are mistaken and
that there will be no problems."
Monica Frassoni, Co-President of the
Greens/EFA Group said:
"Today's vote was unsurprising given that the majority of MEPs decided to
abandon the fight to improve the Commission. José Manuel Barroso did not deserve such confidence. Our Group
will, however, work with this new Commission while trying as much as possible to bring it closer to our
viewpoint. The Greens/EFA Group will be constructive in our opposition; our objective is to win the battles in
the fields that are important for us as ecologists."
